Natural scenery

Wildlife flourishes at River Mill, home to blue heron, kingfisher, hawks, woodpeckers, ducks, beaver and deer. Spend a tranquil morning on the riverbank, or watch the sun set over Falls Lake.

Our sports enthusiasts can wade in for fly fishing, or paddle the Neuse from their own backyard. Sailors and power boaters launch minutes away at the Falls Lake State Recreation Center. The 38,000 acre park also offers hiking trails, fishing, swimming and camping.

The Neuse River Greenway Trail - starting less than a quarter mile from River Mill - offers scenic views of the Neuse River, winding boardwalk areas through wetlands, historical sights, interpretive signs, and agricultural fields. In addition to being part of the City's Capital Area Greenway System, it is a segment of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, which is a long distance trail that runs across North Carolina from the Great Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks.
